FAQ

"Blackout" generally refers to maximum light blocking (industry reference standards such as AATCC TM203 require 0.00% light transmittance to qualify as true blackout), while "room darkening" means significantly reducing light but not necessarily complete blocking. Different suppliers may define these terms differently. When sourcing, always request measured light-blocking rate data rather than relying on marketing labels alone.
Coated blackout achieves light blocking by applying an acrylic or PVC foam layer on the back, with lower cost and a stiffer hand feel; long-term storage requires attention to coating adhesion. Woven blackout (black yarn) incorporates black polyester yarn during weaving, absorbing light through the yarn itself, with a softer hand feel, better breathability, and higher cost. Laminated blackout uses a TPU film bonded to the fabric, with stable blackout performance and a moderate hand feel; composite fastness must be verified. Each process has suitable applications; selection should be based on product positioning and budget.
PVC foam coating is prone to blocking (coating layers sticking together) or cracking (coating becoming brittle and peeling) after long-term storage. This is a well-known pain point of the classic PVC foam process. The severity varies by supplier formulation and storage conditions. It is recommended to avoid long-term storage of PVC foam coating products, or choose more storage-resistant alternatives such as acrylic coating.
Woven blackout (black yarn) fabric is generally more suitable for mid-to-high-end products. It achieves light blocking through the yarn itself without an additional coating, offering a softer hand feel, better drape, superior breathability, and no risk of coating peeling or adhesion. Coated blackout fabric has lower cost and is suitable for economy products, but may experience coating aging, hardening, or adhesion during long-term use or storage. The specific choice should be based on product positioning, target market, and budget.
The typical structure of sunscreen blackout fabric is: face layer of regular sunscreen fabric (70% PVC + 30% polyester), middle layer of TPU film lamination, and back layer of acrylic coating. When ordering, confirm: face layer PVC/polyester ratio, back color, and total fabric weight (face + TPU film + coating, with ±5% tolerance being a common industry acceptable range). The TPU film does not require separate parameter confirmation — only confirm that actual light-blocking performance matches the buyer's provided sample.
Our standard trade term is FOB Shanghai. Payment terms are typically 30% deposit by T/T after order confirmation, with the 70% balance due before shipment. We accept T/T bank transfer. For large orders, irrevocable L/C at sight can be discussed. Other trade terms (CIF, DDP) are available upon request.
