MOQ, Lead Time and Customization for Bulk Blind Orders Explained

MOQ, Lead Time and Customization for Bulk Blind Orders Explained

Three terms confuse first-time importers more than any others: MOQ, lead time, and what actually counts as customization. The short version is that MOQ sits per fabric pattern, production itself is 40-50 days, and ocean freight dominates the total calendar. Plan on 75-100 days from deposit to goods on your shelves. We build to these same numbers across our range, with a standard MOQ of 1000 pcs per pattern and a 40-50 day production lead time.

Key takeaways

  • MOQ is per fabric pattern, not per total order: 1000 pcs per pattern with standard components, 2500 pcs when components are color-matched to the fabric.
  • Production is 40-50 days from deposit to ex-factory. The long part of the timeline is ocean shipping, not manufacturing.
  • Plan 75-100 days door-to-door for Western markets, and order 90-120 days ahead during the second half of the year.
  • Custom fabric and color-printed cartons add 5-10 days. Standard packaging and component customization usually do not.

What MOQ actually means

MOQ is the minimum per fabric pattern. It is not a minimum for your whole order across all patterns. For our production:

  • 1000 pcs per pattern (components not color-matched): brackets, chains and tubes come in standard colors. This is the entry-level configuration.
  • 2500 pcs per pattern (components color-matched): every component matches the fabric color for a seamless look.

MOQ exists because fabric runs come on large rolls and setting up a run for one pattern carries fixed cost. Below the line, per-unit cost stops making sense for both sides. If you are launching a new pattern and unsure of demand, start at 1000 pcs with standard components and upgrade to color-matched parts on the reorder.

Lead time: production versus the full calendar

When you plan inventory, remember that ocean shipping, not production, is the longest piece. Production from deposit to goods ready ex-factory is 40-50 days. The breakdown is approximate because stages overlap:

  • Fabric preparation: 3-7 days, depending on whether the fabric is in stock or must be woven or printed.
  • Production: 15-25 days, depending on order size and factory load.
  • Quality inspection and packaging: 3-5 days.
  • Queue and buffer: the rest covers production queue, component sourcing and unexpected delays.

Ocean shipping then adds:

DestinationSea freight (days)
West Coast US20-25
East Coast US30-40
Northern Europe35-45
Mediterranean30-40
Australia / New Zealand20-30
Middle East20-30

Door-to-door total is production plus ocean plus customs clearance and inland delivery (5-10 days). For most Western markets, budget 75-100 days from deposit to warehouse.

Four things push production out: custom fabric (a new print or weave adds 5-10 days), color-matched components, peak season, and unusually large orders. Peak season is the second half of the year (July to December): retailers stock for Christmas before Q4, and factories rush shipments ahead of the Chinese New Year break (January to February), when component supply tightens. Place orders 90-120 days ahead when ordering in H2.

What you can actually customize

Fabric. Custom colors against a Pantone reference or fabric sample, custom printed patterns from your artwork, and custom composition (polyester, PVC blends and so on).

Components. Color-matched brackets, chains and tubes; custom tube lengths; branded parts with your logo on brackets or chain weights.

Packaging. Custom-printed color cartons with your brand and barcode (this adds 5-10 days), printed polybags or shrink wrap, and hang tags with branding and care instructions. Standard packaging (PP bag, plain carton) adds no time.

Private label. Full OEM packaging under your brand, with instruction manuals in your language.

Small-batch customization below MOQ. For high-end residential, luxury office, designer or boutique hospitality work where quantity is far under MOQ, each blind can be made to exact dimensions, fabric, color and control method. Unit price is higher because small-batch production is inefficient. Timing: air freight runs 25-40 days total (production plus air); LCL sea freight takes 25-35 days of production, with total delivery depending on your booking and consolidation schedule.

Bottom line

Start at 1000 pcs per pattern with standard parts, plan around a 40-50 day production window inside a 75-100 day door-to-door calendar, and treat custom fabric and printed cartons as the two choices that push the date out. For the paperwork side of the same order, our bulk ordering guide for importers walks from inquiry to documents, and our QC process guide covers what happens between deposit and container. A typical program, such as our zebra blinds, ships under the same 1000/2500 pcs and 40-50 day terms.
